The Climbing Shirt is made from plaid brushed cotton twill featuring multi pockets, cowl collar, add on front placket and solid cuffs. The original reference for this garment is taken from a photograph of Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard taken in 1958 at the base of the overhanging North American wall of El Capitan. In it he is wearing a workshirt which has apparently been modified for climbing purposes. A large button flap had been sewn over one of the original patch pockets at a slight angle, an additional large patch pocket was sewn onto the base of the shirt and a loop attached. Particularly interesting were the cuffs which appeared to be solid with no buttons or placket.
