GRENSON FOR H R SPRING SUMMER 2012

We’ve been lucky enough to team up with true English heritage brand Grenson for SS12 and collaborate on a range of top spec shoes, all handmade at their Rushden factory. The shoes follow the SS12 Vietnam war era counter culture theme with the standout shoes being the Larry Burrows inspired American Longwing brogues.

Burrows was an English photojournalist who made a name for himself during the Vietnam War by capturing many of the conflicts most poignant images. He would place himself in danger time and time again to get ‘the shot’ and was eventually killed when his chopper was shot down over Laos. The wreckage was discovered recently and Burrows’ bullet ridden Leica was recovered. Burrows was known for his quiet and gentlemanly nature and also for wearing wingtip brogues in the field.

The Grenson for H R Burrows Wingtips are the highest spec shoes made by the company short of being bespoke. They are handmade from the finest grade leather and suede with full leather lining, handlasted, benchmade with Goodyear welt construction and feature a closed channel sole, something usually only seen on true bespoke footwear.

Other styles include a 1960’s college style Penny Loafer often seen on off duty Officers and Cadets available in navy suede with a navy micro sole and beige suede with a brick red English Dainite sole plus a cordovan leather bowling shoe with Dainite sole, these wore often ‘appropriated’ by GI’s on R and R and then teamed with locally made Hawaiian or ‘crazy’ shirts and shorts.

Stockists include Liberty, Togs and Clogs, End, Eligens, E35, Author among others.
